17 students from Kojimachi Gakuen Girls' School have been accepted to overseas universities in the U.S., U.K., Australia, and Accepted to Overseas Universities in the U.S., U.K., Australia, and Ireland

Kojimachi Gakuen Girls' Junior and Senior High School (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Principal: Chiaki Horiguchi) is pleased to announce that a total of 17 students have been accepted to universities in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and Ireland for the 2024 entrance examination. This means that a total of 57 students have been accepted to overseas universities over the past three years.

Background

Facing the evolution and spread of AI, globalization, and a declining working-age population due to a declining birthrate, the government has been promoting "high school-university connection reform" in order to develop human resources who can cope with such a society. For example, in university entrance examinations, AO (admission office) examinations have been changed to "comprehensive type selection" and recommendation examinations have been changed to "school recommendation type selection," both of which require the use of tests to measure academic ability.

In addition, the individual examinations conducted by each university are now designed to comprehensively evaluate three elements of academic ability: "knowledge and skills," "ability to think, judge, and express oneself," and "attitude toward learning with independence and in cooperation with diverse people. In the past, entrance examinations focused on "knowledge and skills," but due to changes in the industrial structure resulting from the spread and evolution of AI, students are now required to have problem-solving skills and other abilities that will enable them to live in society.

In this context, our school was quick to establish a system that enables students with "high motivation for learning," "a clear sense of purpose in learning," and "a certain level of academic ability" to smoothly advance to the university of their first choice.

■Admission to Overseas Universities

Through initiatives such as Active English and Global Education, we provide students with a high level of motivation for learning, a clear sense of purpose in learning, and a certain level of academic ability. As a result of these efforts, we have seen an increase in the number of students who have acquired a high level of English proficiency and wish to enter universities overseas with the aim of playing an active role in the international arena in the future.

Therefore, in 2020, we will join the University Recommendation Program for Overseas Partner Universities (UPAA) and establish a system to enable students to enter overseas universities.

In the 2024 entrance examination, 14 students were accepted to universities in the United Kingdom, 1 to a university in the United States, 1 to a university in Australia, and 1 to a university in Ireland through the Overseas Partner University Recommendation System.
