(Location: Fujikawaguchiko-machi, Minamitsuru-gun, Yamanashi, President: Tsutomu Inuzuka) announces that it will co-sponsor "Dairoccan," a month-long (March 1-31, 2024) art festival organized by 6okken, a general incorporated association that operates six artist-run residences integrating living/expressive activities and facility management in Oishi, Lake Fuji Kawaguchi, Yamanashi.

The "Dairoccan" art festival consists of three programs: "Observe," "Live," and "Share," and will be held at two venues: 6okken's residency base in Oishi, Fujikawaguchiko Town, and the nearby Forest and Lake Paradise. The finale, "Sharing" program on March 30 and 31, will be an exhibition + performance type festival that will be open to the public at the Forest and Lake Paradise, where visitors can relive the entire process focused on the eve of creation over the course of a month.

It is said that the oshibori originated in the Edo period (1603-1867), when travelers used oshibori to wipe off dirt and relieve fatigue. The oshibori culture has been handed down as a tool for hygiene and hospitality, and is unique to Japan, but its origin is a plain white towel. We value the creativity that makes the "oshibori" what it is, giving added value to the "white towel" in accordance with the times, not to mention the antiviral and antibacterial hygiene technology. We have much to learn from artists who gain new insights and perspectives, break down stereotypes, and constantly create. This art festival is a new attempt to share the introspection that comes one step before moving on to production through the work of artists in residence from Japan and abroad, transcending fields of art. We have decided to support this new challenge as an art festival and to enliven the Fujikawaguchiko Town area together.

Through each month-long program, participants will discover the "sense that only they believe in" through shared reflection before proceeding to production. The goal is to bring home "a new way to connect life and production" while opening up new sensations that overflow from the five senses.

01. observing (March 16 - 17, 2011 / partially open to the public) *Closed

We will invite people involved in the "Yamanashi Media Arts Award" and researchers to discuss the technique of "omission" - what to leave unsaid, and how to trust the viewer. The discussion will be published in text at a later date. On March 16 and 17, the third week, we will invite anthropologist Shu Fujita and Derrida researcher Toruaki Moriwaki, and use the discussion in the first half as a starting point for interdisciplinary connections among the various practices (coordinator: Rakuo Ogawa, ambassador: JACKSON kaki).

02. living (mid-March/participating artists only program) *finished

Eighteen artists from Japan and abroad will be divided into three groups (VISION, TOUCH, and AUDITION) for a 14-day residency. Many of them are members of collectives or have experience in space management. While collaborating with each other, they will examine and practice the environment (life, family, economic activities) surrounding their own acts of expression.

03. share (March 30 - 31, open to the public)

On March 30 and 31, the last two days of the Triennial, an exhibition + performance-type festival will be held at the Forest and Lake Paradise (5606 Kodachi, Fujikawaguchiko Town, Minamitsuru-gun, Yamanashi Prefecture), where the entire process will be relived. On March 31, "Friday Night Plans" will perform a live set.

What is 6okken?

6okken is an organization based in six houses in Kawaguchiko, Yamanashi Prefecture, that operates an "artist-run residence" combining living, expressive activities, and facility management. Over the past year and a half since its launch in 2022, more than 1,000 artists and creators have spent time in Okken, sharing their "artworks and productions in the foreground" through camps, residencies, and events. In addition, through participation in art festivals throughout Japan and collaboration with art institutions around the world, 6okken nurtures the image of the artist as defined by 6okken, that is, "an attitude of continually facing perspectives that would disappear from the world if one let go of them" through dialogue among different fields.
