ETC Management Service has Developed ETC-AI Parking that integrates ETC and AI

ETC Management Service Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Katsumi Mori) announced on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, that it has developed a prototype of ETC-AI, a new parking management system that combines ETC technology with AI.

ETC-AI is an improved version of our ETC parking system, which enables automatic payment of parking fees, that uses AI cameras to manage the entry and exit of vehicles into and out of parking lots, and has the following features

1) Reduction in the number of ETC antennas and installation cost

The current ETC parking system requires one ETC antenna per two parking compartments, but with ETC-AI, only one ETC antenna needs to be installed at the entrance/exit, thus significantly reducing installation costs.

2) Lockless/Gateless

ETC-AI does not use lock plates or gates, which can easily cause problems with parking lot users, and the system records and stores information on vehicles entering and exiting the parking lot using AI cameras to ensure that no fraudulent measures are taken.

3) Compatible with "Drive Node," an automatic ETC payment system

The system is also compatible with "Drive Node," an automatic parking fee payment service using ETC technology developed by our company, allowing ETC-AI parking users to automatically pay parking fees from their second use by simply entering and exiting their vehicles. At the Drive Node parking facility in Kodaira, Tokyo, which we opened last January, more than 30 vehicles have registered for automatic payment in spite of the fact that the facility has only two lots, and approximately 90% of all the parking spaces used are automatically paid for by repeat customers. The convenience of auto-payments has proven to foster fixed fans/repeaters and contribute to stabilization of revenue.

The Company plans to construct a demonstration and test facility for ETC-AI parking around April of this year. If the development of the facility goes smoothly, we plan to start trial service operation around this summer, and based on the results of the trial service, we will move forward with the plan to gradually deploy the service between December of this year and January of next year.

- When entering the parking lot

1) When entering a parking lot, the ETC antenna acquires the number of the ETC on-board unit. At the same time, the AI camera detects the vehicle entering the parking lot and tags the ETC on-board unit number to the AI image. 

2) ETC-AI tracks the vehicle with the tagged ETC on-board unit number. 

3) ETC-AI detects the entry of the vehicle tagged with the ETC on-board unit number.

Mechanism of ETC-AI parking (at entry)

- At the time of entry/exit/payment

1) read the 2D code with your smartphone, enter the payment site, and enter the parcel number. 

2) Enter your credit card number and make your payment. 

3) If you "register" at this time, from the second time on, the ETC on-board unit number will be used to identify the registered driver, and you will be able to use the automatic payment system. Automatic payment is available.
