■Nature and beautiful flowers nurtured by microorganisms for 30 years of soil cultivation
Tree peonies or stem peonies are considered difficult to grow. However, at Peony Garden Tokyo in Tsukuba, 60k peonies bloom beautifully every year because of the 30 years effort of cultivating soil by Dr.Seki, who obtained his doctor degree at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology after turning 60 years old. He has developed his own fermentation technology and microorganism control methods, and without the use of chemical pesticides or herbicides, he nurtures healthy soil and a beautiful natural environment. The compost "Thoroughbred Miho" produced at the garden even has one million times more microorganisms than ordinary compost, and is attracting attention from experts for its diversity as well as its use in sustainable farming that produces delicious crops with abundant yields.

Currently, "Thoroughbred Miho," a fermented compost utilizing horse manure from "thoroughbreds" racehorses bred at a horse farm in Miho Village, is an essential part of the garden's soil preparation. For this year's opening, which falls in the year of the horse in Japan, a pony from the nearby horse riding club "Crane Ibaraki" will visit the park.
Pony Ichiro-kun visit on 4/10 (Fri.), 4/18 (Sat.), and 4/23 (Thu.).

Director, Tsukuba Herb Research Institute, Inc.
D. (Agriculture), Graduate School of Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology
Born in 1960. In 1989, he was involved in the opening of Peony Garden and fell in love with the peony "Hoki" at first sight. He developed "Thoroughbred Miho," a fermented horse manure-based compost based on more than 30 years of soil improvement technology. In March 2022, he completed a doctoral course in agriculture at the graduate school of Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology. He is aware that his strength lies in his knowledge acquired at the graduate school and his practical experience in the field, and he considers it his mission to pass on this knowledge to young people.
Peony Garden Tokyo in Tsukuba
Peony Garden was established in 1989. It is one of the world's largest peony gardens, covering an area of approximately 20,000 square meters, where soil artisans using pesticide-free and enzyme farming methods have planted 60,000 peonies of 800 varieties. Tree peonies are also known as the "king of a thousands of flowers" in Japan. Some of the plants are 150 years old, and some are rare species that can only be found here. Only by a 40-minute drive from central Tokyo, the garden shows its beautiful landscape with abundant nature that even kingfishers visit, and the biotope is filled with the chirping of birds and the sweet fragrance of flowers. The garden's theme is "GO NATURAL" because it is an earth-friendly and precious place where children can safely play in the soil.
The garden provides a valuable experience for children to experience nature to the fullest and get back to nature.
