SHOKAY Care Program (3) - Fixing and Repairing

SHOKAY Repair Program
In conjunction with the spring change of clothes season, we would like to reintroduce the "SHOKAY Alteration Program" in cooperation with "Knit Cure," a knit specialty repair store in Tokyo.
Background: Changing clothes is the best time for alterations
A change of clothes in spring is a great opportunity to inspect knit items that have been used during the winter. Gloves and sweaters with holes or frayed cuffs - we have heard many customers say, "It's a shame to throw them away, but I can't wear them as they are.
Yak wool from SHOKAY is a rare material, even rarer than cashmere, and items made from this fiber, of which only 100g is harvested from one cow per year, can be used for years and even decades if properly cared for. Through this program, SHOKAY supports the mindful choice to "fix and use for a long time" rather than "throw away when broken.
The highest temperatures that can be used as a guideline for changing clothes in the spring
If you are not sure when to change clothes, please refer to the maximum temperature.
Clothing: Spring clothes
Suggested maximum temperature: 15°C to 20°C
No need for outerwear. Knitwear and light jackets are useful.
Clothing: Summer
Maximum temperature: 25°C or higher
Short sleeves, lightweight materials such as linen.
Clothing: Autumn
Maximum temperature: 15°C to 20°C
Fall is the season for layering. Shawls are in great demand.
Clothing: Winter
Maximum temperature: 15°C or lower
Time for yak knitwear. Before taking them out of the closet, check for alterations.
The timing of the change of clothes is also the perfect opportunity to make a decision on "throw away, fix, or keep".

SHOKAY values the idea of "Fix it and use it for a long time
SHOKAY products are made of precious fiber, of which only 100g is harvested from one yak per year. The blessings of yak life, carefully nurtured by Tibetan nomads, should be used carefully for as long as possible - this is the reason why we continue our mending program.
We hope you will take this opportunity to gently pull out that piece of clothing that has been sleeping in the back of your closet for a change of clothes.
Instead of throwing it away because it has a hole in it, fix it and wear it again. I believe that each choice you make will also be a respect to the people who made the item. I would be very happy if your favorite SHOKAY item becomes a piece that you have a deeper attachment to after being repaired. Tamiko Hayashi
About SHOKAY
SHOKAY is a social business founded in 2006 by two female students studying international cooperation at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government, with the aim of solving poverty issues among the Tibetan people. As a pioneer of ethical knitwear, their founding story was published in the book "Sekai wo Chan Kaeru Oshigoto" (Kodansha, 2010).
Only 100g of yak hair is harvested from one cow per year, making it a rare material. It is said to be more heat-retaining than cashmere and less likely to form hairballs due to its excellent breathability and flexibility. The company produces and sells high-quality knit products and yarns while ensuring traceability. The brand contributes to the achievement of 12 of the 17 UN SDGs.
