How to create a happy closet where clothes invite good fortune. NOTE Magazine "Happy Closet - ABC of Mindful Style" Serialization Starts
Background of the series: From "Ethical" to "Mindful
Tamiko Hayashi, the representative of SHOKAY Japan Office, has been working to spread ethical fashion in Japan since 2007 through the NPO Social Concierge. After about 10 years, she started a series of articles, "ABC of Mindful Fashion," in the fashion trade newspaper "Senken Shinbun" for a year from 2016. At that time, the words "sustainable" and "ethical" were gradually beginning to spread in the fashion industry. Feeling uncomfortable with those words being consumed as mere marketing tools, we continued to search for questions that went deeper.
Mottainai" and "o-tagasama" - senses that Japanese people should have originally possessed. I felt that such a movement of the heart was the key to open the door to the future. I wanted to confront fashion not with the foreign word "ethical," but with a "mindful perspective" that is inside of us. Tamiko Hayashi
After about 10 years, in the fall of 2025, we started a new series of "Happy Closet," a notebook magazine that reprints and reorganizes the SENKEN Newspaper series, and adds comments from a contemporary perspective.

Clothes" and "blessings" have the same sound. What we wear adjusts our minds, and when our minds are adjusted, our actions change, and when our actions change, our society changes. I would like to share such a small but important chain of events with you through this magazine. I hope you will follow me. Tamiko Hayashi

About SHOKAY
SHOKAY is the world's first regenerative material brand focusing on yak, a social business founded in 2006 by two female students studying international cooperation at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government, with the aim of solving poverty issues among the Tibetan people. As a pioneer of ethical knitwear, their founding story was published in the book "Sekai wo Chan Kaeru Oshigoto" (Kodansha, 2010).

It is said to retain heat better than cashmere, has excellent breathability and flexibility, and is resistant to pilling. The company produces and sells high-quality knit products and yarns while ensuring traceability. The brand contributes to the achievement of 12 of the 17 UN SDGs.
