Background of the program: Don't let Tibet's bounty go to waste

Yak hair, the raw material for SHOKAY, is collected from yaks carefully raised by nomads in the harsh environment of remote Tibetan areas in China. We believe it is our responsibility to recycle and reuse as much as possible.

Since its establishment, SHOKAY has been practicing circular economy, treating clothes not as something to be consumed but as something to be recycled.

Outline of the Take-Back Program

SHOKAY collects unwanted items from customers and donates those in good condition to a non-profit organization that supports women and single mothers fleeing domestic violence in their underwear to a shelter in Sapporo. We are now accepting unwanted SHOKAY items from our customers during the upcoming season of changing clothes. At the same time, we are also looking for NPOs and support groups that wish to donate SHOKAY items for reuse. We would appreciate your cooperation.

STEP 1 Contact us

If you have any unwanted SHOKAY items, please contact the SHOKAY Japan office by e-mail or phone.

STEP 2 Provide a mailing address

After you contact us, we will provide you with a mailing address. Please bear the shipping costs.

STEP 3 Shipping the item

Please send the item(s) with the name and e-mail address you provided. After confirming receipt, we will send you a discount coupon by e-mail.

STEP 4 Use the coupon

Next time you shop at the SHOKAY official online store (Yahoo Shopping), please enter the coupon number in the remarks column on the purchase page. After confirmation, the coupon will be deducted from the purchase price.

STEP 5 Circulation of items

Items in good condition will be donated to NPOs and support groups.

NPOs and support groups that wish to donate SHOKAY items are now accepting applications from the public.

SHOKAY is the world's first regenerative material brand focusing on yak, a social business founded in 2006 by two female students studying international cooperation at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government with the aim of solving poverty issues among the Tibetan people. She has practiced yoga and meditation for over 30 years and has completed the Tatsumura Yoga for Health Teacher Training Course. She is certified as a forest therapy guide in the United States. She has also completed the "Forest Medical Trainer" training course certified by Shinano-cho, Nagano Prefecture, and is a member of the Shinano-cho Forest Therapy Study Group "Hitotsuki no Kai". Currently, she is preparing "Okusuri Farm," a one-room retreat cottage offering forest therapy programs in Niseko Town, Hokkaido.
