Special exhibition commemorating the 60th anniversary of the museum's opening The 2nd Contemporary Artist Exhibition Takeuchi Koichi The Wind that Greets

京都府立堂本印象美術館

Kyoto Prefectural Insho-Domoto Museum of Fine Arts (located in  Kita-ku, Kyoto https://insho-domoto.com/) will hold a special exhibition, “Takeuchi Koichi The Wind that Greets” from April 12 (Sun.) to June 7 (Sun.), 2026.

■Exhibition Overview

The featuring artist, Takeuchi Koichi (1941-) started his career as a textile designer and a while later, at the age of 25, he started to learn Nihonga (Japanese style painting) under Yamaguchi Kayo, a prominent figure in the Kyoto art world. By encountering Zen Buddhism teachings and the noble spirit of Chinese Song Dynasty paintings during his 30’s, Takeuchi opened the door to his unique realm of spirituality, which is filled with deep compassion towards all living things. Animals benignly described in his works are so alive with various emotions from sorrow to humor and that makes Takeuchi’s art world genuine. The exhibition features his early, representative, and latest works all at once. It is truly a precious opportunity to be able to appreciate full perspective of Takeuchi’s art world.
