About LAODI Distillery

LAODI Distillery is located in Vientiane, Laos, Southeast Asia, where a Japanese man has been making rum. Located in the capital city of Vientiane, LAODI Distillery is the first craft rum distillery in Laos, established in 2006 by the founder, Ikuzo Inoue, a native of Hiroshima, in cooperation with Laotians.

On their 20-hectare plantation carved out of virgin forest, sugarcane is grown entirely by hand. Only fresh sugarcane juice pressed immediately after harvesting is used as raw material, and since its establishment, the company has consistently worked with the land to produce rum.

The founder, Mr. Inoue, has been making rum in a foreign country for 20 years through trial and error with the help of experts. He has trained local women as artisans to make craft rum that brings out the best of the fertile terroir of Laos.

These efforts have been well received outside of Japan, and LAODI has won gold medals at international spirits competitions in London and Berlin. LAODI has won gold medals at international spirits competitions in London and Berlin, and has earned a solid reputation as a Laotian craft rum on the world stage.

About the new premium series "HAGUKUMU

HAGUKUMUと自社サトウキビ

HAGUKUMU and our own sugarcane

HAGUKUMU" embodies our philosophy of devoting all our love and time and effort to sugarcane and manufacturing. It is the very progress that we have made over the past 20 years since our founding, as we have continued to challenge and improve ourselves. This new brand was born as a symbol of the company's commitment to the terroir and its craftsmanship.

The company's own farm adjacent to the distillery handles everything from sugarcane seedling to harvesting. The sugarcane is harvested during the limited dry season and grows in the subtropical monsoon climate with abundant rainfall, which maximizes its sweetness during the dry season. Only the fresh juice from the cane is used. The result is a raw sake with a fresh sweetness and a strong structure.

In Laos, with its tropical climate, the angel share reaches about 10% per year, and the aging process is dynamic. In this environment, "HAGUKUMU" is aged in bourbon barrels and finished in Pinot Noir barrels. Ripe berry fruit, tea and spices, and oak notes reminiscent of antique furniture meld together to form a rich and complex aroma. Sugar cane sweetness and mellow tannins harmonize with mellow custard and a brilliant lingering finish, making this a perfect 20th anniversary wine.
