Prayers for the Reality Surrounding Myanmar: A New Photo & Words ZINE “MYANMAR – It’s all about love” Released

FIVE TABLE BREWS, LLC (Head Office: Sumida, Tokyo; Representative: Kentaroh Matsui) has released a new photo ZINE titled “MYANMAR – It’s all about love” (¥2,000 including tax), the latest work by Kentaroh Matsui.

The ZINE centers on the theme of “prayer,” combining photographs Matsui took during his 2013 visit to Myanmar with bilingual captions in English and Japanese.Printed in full color (80 pages, 127×188mm format), the book captures moments of daily life and quiet spirituality across the country.

Years after the journey, Myanmar was struck by a coup, civil war, and devastating earthquakes.In the face of such tragedies, Matsui wanted to move beyond the numbers—beyond reports that simply state “thousands dead”—and instead invite readers to imagine the faces and lives of those who continue to live there.This desire led him to compile the photos and words into this ZINE.

As a veteran advertising planner who handled all aspects of concept, photography, writing, and design, Matsui explains:

“In Myanmar, I saw countless people praying.Now, perhaps it is our turn to pray—for Myanmar, and for world peace.Even from Japan, there are things we can do.To think, to imagine, to pray—these are acts of love, both for others and for oneself.That’s why I titled it ‘It’s all about love.’”

Designed so that each turn of the page intertwines prayer and imagination,this work speaks to those who feel the weight of conflict and division around the world.Through photography and words, it quietly asks: What does it mean to truly care, to truly think, to truly imagine?
