Sun Sun Winery in Shiojiri City, Nagano Prefecture, operated by the social welfare corporation Sun Vision (Headquarters: Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture; President: Tsuyoshi Karasawa), received a gold award for Kakizawa Chardonnay Naked 2023 and a bronze award for Chateau Sun Sun Sun Syrah 2023 at the Japan Wine Competition 2025 held in July 2025. Chateau Saint-Saint-Syrah 2023" received a Bronze Award.

As a winery that engages in the "Agriculture and Welfare Partnership," we have been striving to achieve both quality and social value. We are grateful to everyone involved in the winery for this recognition, which marks the 10th anniversary of the winery's establishment, and we are encouraged to take on further challenges.

Kakizawa Chardonnay Naked 2023 is a white wine made from carefully selected Chardonnay grapes grown on the winery's own 864-meter-high vineyard, and produced with a nonchaptalization method (no sugar added) to bring out the true flavor of the grapes. We recommend pairing this wine with cream-based dishes or seafood carpaccio. The highly ripe grapes give it a peach and pineapple aroma, and the smooth acidity and flavor are harmonized in the fruit's concentration.

■About cultivation (Ryutaro Toda, field management manager)

The 2023 budburst got off to a normal start, with three days of below-freezing temperatures in late April, but since the buds had not yet emerged, this had no effect on the grapes. July was also rainy and slightly warmer, and August and September were particularly hot, with little rainfall in September and October, when the grapes ripened, resulting in very good growth. This resulted in a much earlier harvest than in the past, as the grapes lost their acidity more quickly. In addition, the "accumulated temperature," which indicates the accumulation of temperatures, was the second highest on record (after 2016), there was little rain, and we had the most hours of sunshine since 2018. We were able to harvest well ripened grapes that grew in plenty of light.

About the vinification (Shogo Tamura, winemaker and factory manager)

The grapes were so well ripened that we removed the berries from the bunches, lightly crushed them, and left the skins and juice together for a while, a process called "skin contact. After that, only the juice that naturally flowed out (free-run juice) was transferred to a fermentation tank, and fermentation was started after carefully removing impurities. The acidity was lower than usual, and the fruit flavors were well expressed, so lactic acid fermentation (MLF) was purposely not performed, and only the necessary fining and filtration was done before bottling.
