Medical Corporation Okada Clinic Ophthalmology, Glaucoma & Diabetes (Chairman: Yoshiharu Okada) started myopia progression control treatment with Rejuceamini (low concentration atropine) and Red Light therapy in June 2025. Red light therapy is only available at two ophthalmology departments in Kobe City.

1. treatment with Rejusea Mini (low-concentration atropine)

Santen Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. launched Rejusea Mini eye drops (atropine 0.025%) and began myopia suppression treatment approved by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.

The drug is indicated for patients between the ages of 5 and 15 (3 to 18 years old is also acceptable).

It is believed to act on muscarinic receptors in the sclera, causing remodeling of the sclera and inhibiting the progression of ocular axis length. It is preservative-free for long-term ophthalmic use, and the additive hydroxyethylcellulose promotes migration from the iris ciliary body to the sclera, reducing mydriasis and enabling prolonged action on the sclera.

The price at our clinic is 3,800 yen (tax included). In addition, an initial examination and consultation fee of 3,000 yen and a follow-up examination and consultation fee of 1,000 yen are required. An examination and consultation every month to every three months is required.

In the Orange Study, a clinical trial, the equivalent spherical power was reduced by 39% and the ocular axis value was reduced by 32% over a 2-year period, which is a good result. Myopia progression is suppressed, so myopia is not cured. It is possible to reduce myopia from strong to weak. 5 years of treatment is expected to reduce myopia by more than 50%.

Side effects may include glare. Most patients become accustomed to the treatment, but if glare is unavoidable, the treatment can be given every other day.

Indication is for ages 3 and up.

It is believed that the exposure of the eye to red light (red light) of 690 nm increases the thickness of the choroid and suppresses the progression of myopia. The myopia suppression effect is an astonishing 87.7% for the equivalent spherical power. Myopia progression can be significantly inhibited.

It also appears to be effective for adults with ongoing high myopia (under clinical trials).

The 3-minute treatment is performed twice a day, 5 times a week.
