Sports Dentistry, Not Just Mouthpieces

We have seen things through our involvement with about 200 athletes a year, including professional and amateur athletes, and we will share these things with dentists.

What kind of mouthpieces are made to improve the performance of athletes, not just to prevent trauma?

Professional athletes also need to recover from injury, so we make mouthpieces for sleep, but what kind of examination do you do and what kind of mouthpieces do you make?

What kind of examination do you do and what kind of mouthpiece do you make?

What is the relationship between training, dental treatment, and orthodontic treatment?

What are the differences and characteristics of mouthpieces for foreign players and Japanese players?

How do you communicate with the teams?

What kind of mouthpiece is made, how is the bite set, and how is it adjusted?

Unfortunately, professional athletes and dentists do not have much contact with each other.

Therefore, we have invited Mr. Ryota Morioka, a former member of the Japanese national soccer team, to speak on the importance of oral health management for athletes, sharing his experiences during his playing days. He will share what he paid attention to in his life as an athlete, his relationship with his agent, and the knowledge he gained through his competitive life in Belgium. He will talk about things that you cannot usually hear.

In addition, Mr. Ei Yokono, former manager of the Kobe University American football team (RAVENS), will also talk about the challenges of college sports, the dental situation, and the contact between college sports and society.

Sports dentistry really still has a lot of potential.

The content of this seminar is designed to let people know that dentists can get involved and put it into practice.

Profile of lecturers

Ryota Morioka (former Japan national team and professional soccer player)

Born in Kyoto Prefecture. He was shocked by the importance of diet at a seminar given by a nutritionist when he was in elementary school, and since then he has been managing his own diet.

After becoming a professional player, he faced physical challenges and practiced various training and conditioning methods. Always confronting himself, he has pursued "what maximizes performance.

After graduating from high school, he joined Vissel Kobe. At the same time, he entered the School of Human Sciences at Waseda University.

He was selected for the Japan national team and traveled to Europe in 2016 after a match with the Brazilian national team. He graduated from Waseda University at the same time he went to Europe.

After that, he played for four clubs in Poland and Belgium before returning to Vissel Kobe in 2024 and retiring in March 2025.

In the process of searching for the best way to optimize his performance, he felt a "cultural difference in dental awareness" after moving to Europe.

The realization of the difference from Japan led him to increase his own dental awareness and to incorporate a mouthpiece to improve his performance.

Ryota Morioka, lecturer

Ei Yokono (Kobe University, Faculty of Business Administration, 4th year)

Former manager of Kobe University American football team (RAVENS)

He was a member of the hard tennis club in junior high and high school. Upon entering Kobe University, he joined the American Football Club. He spent his days practicing hard to achieve his long-cherished goal of becoming the number one player in Japan. Due to an injury, he became a manager in September of his sophomore year.

Since then, she has been involved in acquiring sponsors for the team, promoting the team on social networking services, and acting as a bridge between the current students and the parent-supporter association.

Increased the number of followers on Instagram from 2,000 to 3,500. Gained 7 sponsors.

While manager, he met Nanairo Dentistry and became aware of the importance of sports dentistry, and worked hard to establish a partnership with the team and Nanairo Dentistry.

At Nanairo Dentistry, he is involved in identifying issues and solving problems regarding the relationship between university sports and dental clinics.

After retirement, he made a fresh start and devoted himself to job hunting, receiving job offers from three major Japanese companies.

Shun Shirasaki (President, Nanairo Dental Clinic and Children's Orthodontic Clinic)

Graduated from Okayama University School of Dentistry in 2012.

In 2018, he opened Nanairo Dental Clinic in Tadotsu-cho, Nakatado-gun, Kagawa Prefecture.

He then opened Naha-Omoromachi Clinic in Naha, Okinawa in 2022, and Hyogo-Ashiya Clinic in Ashiya, Hyogo in 2024. He currently operates three clinics.

Under the clinic philosophy of "What adults can do today for the adults of the future," the clinic aims to be a clinic that attends to the concerns of each individual patient, provides medical care with an eye toward the 100-year life period, and values long-term health.

In 2022, he will also become a member of the board of directors of MID-G. While serving as president of the medical corporation, he is committed to the development of dental care. He is leading the growth of the clinic and the improvement of academics, education, and management of the industry as a whole.

In addition, he has given numerous lectures for manufacturers and study groups. He is also an author and active in many other fields.
