Heat Stroke Preparedness! Learn about heat stroke based on weather information and get certified! Students are now being accepted for the "Healthy Weather Advisor Certification Course!
~ Creating a society that learns about the relationship between weather and health through gem lectures~.
NPO法人バイオクリマ研究会
The NPO Bioclima Research Association (President: Osamu Shido) is holding the "18th Healthy Weather Advisor Certification Course," a human resource development program to mitigate damage from extreme heat, in on-demand delivery format from May 9 (Fri.) to August 8 (Fri.), 2025.
Another hot summer is coming.
The number of "Heat Stroke Alert" announcements in 2024 is more than 10 times more than at the start of 2020.
In 2024, the "Heat Stroke Special Alert" announced by the Ministry of the Environment will continue to operate.
Furthermore, the European Union's Meteorological Information Service reported that the Arctic sea ice extent is at a record low, and some experts predicted that global warming will continue.
The NPO Bioclima Research Group believes that it is necessary to take qualified action in individual situations rather than being carried away by alerts and news. Based on this philosophy, we continue to promote the development of human resources (health weather advisors) who have correct knowledge of the causes of heat stroke and can facilitate qualified judgment, as we have done in previous years.
Heat stroke is caused by three factors: environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, and wind; physical factors such as age, chronic illness, and physical condition; and behavioral factors such as strenuous exercise and outdoor work. It is not a disaster that cannot be prevented. The health weather advisor is a person who can play a role in this area.
The Health Meteorology Advisor certification is obtained by taking the "Health Meteorology Advisor Certification Course (sponsored by the Japan Society of Biomathematology)" via on-demand delivery and passing the prescribed exam. The course is characterized by its wide-ranging approach to learning not only the mechanisms of heat stroke, but also the health hazards and diseases caused by heat shock and other weather phenomena, from food, clothing, and shelter to climate change, with an emphasis on becoming a person who can make qualified judgments in a variety of situations.
This year, the NPO Bioclima Research Group is again promoting measures against heat stroke through the training of health weather advisors.
Learn the relationship between weather and health for a healthy life!

<Outline of the Certification Course for Health Meteorological Advisors
A "health weather advisor" is a specialist who provides health advice based on weather information. The certification will be granted by the NPO Bioclima Research Association through participation in this course and submission of assignments.
Those who acquire the certification can provide people's daily lives, as well as the elderly, infants, people with chronic diseases, and those who are sensitive to weather changes, with correct knowledge on how to manage their health, improve their comfort, and prevent heat stroke in the summer.
A "Healthy Weather Advisor Certificate" will be issued to those who have attended at least 10 of the 15 courses and have reached a certain standard by submitting a report as prescribed by the institute. More than 540 people, including meteorologists, have been certified so far, and are active as health weather experts not only in their own health management, but also in various fields such as medical care, nursing care, sports, and media.

Curriculum details of the certification course
<1. Introduction to Bioclimatology A (Climate and Geography) Total 82 min.
This course provides a geographical approach to the relationship between climate and humans, which is essential for learning about healthy weather, and provides the basic knowledge for the subsequent courses.
Lecturer] Masahiro Kagami, Professor, Tokyo Gakugei University
<2. Introduction to Bioclimatology B (Physiology and Life) Total 96 min.
This course is designed to provide students with a basic understanding of the body's mechanisms essential for learning about health and weather, and to acquire a general knowledge of the relationship between health, weather, and the seasons. The course also covers factors such as temperature and how to understand them and their effects on the human body, which will serve as the basis for subsequent lectures.
Lecturer】Haru Shibato, Professor Emeritus, Shimane University / Dean, Shimane Rehabilitation Academy
<3. Introduction to Bathing Total: 99 min.
The lecture focuses on the topic of hot water bathing, which is a common bathing style among modern Japanese people, and provides the correct knowledge on how to utilize baths, including the risks and benefits of bathing throughout the four seasons, and the bathing methods that depend on such knowledge.
Lecturer】 Prof. Shinya Hayasaka, Tokyo City University
<4. Cardiovascular Diseases <Total 93 minutes
This lecture discusses the relationship between cardiovascular diseases and weather, with a focus on myocardial infarction and cerebral infarction, and examines weather conditions that cause disease onset, based on medical papers.
Lecturer】FUKUNAGA Atsushi, Doctor and Weather Forecaster, Fussa Public Hospital
<5. Relationship between Weather and Hay Fever Total 68 min.
Participants will learn about the weather conditions under which pollen from cedar and cypress, the main causative plants of hay fever, is dispersed, and learn actions and knowledge to reduce symptoms. Pollen observation methods will also be explained in detail.
Instructor] Toshiyuki Minami, President, Minami Meteorological Predictor Office, Inc.
<6. Weather Pain Total 128 minutes
The relationship between weather and pain has been known empirically for a long time. Chronic pain that develops or worsens under the influence of weather conditions is called "weather pain. This lecture will provide an overview of weather-related pain, its characteristics, and related factors through the results of animal experiments and clinical cases.
Lecturer】Professor Hiroki Sakurai, Tokiwa University
<7. Weather and Housing 87 min. total
For animals, the main purpose of a nest is to reproduce, but for humans, the important purpose of a home is to regulate body temperature. In Japan, where the four seasons change, both heat and cold play a major role in health. In this lecture, participants will learn how to live comfortably and healthily.
