■What is "Waiting for the Wind" - Not stuck, now just waiting for the wind to blow

The camp takes place on the remote island of Oki in Shimane Prefecture, which once flourished as a port of call for Kitamaebune ships. The image of a Kitamae-ship resting its sails on the island, waiting for the best wind to blow, and sailing out to sea, is superimposed on the image of children who are not attending school. The truants are not stuck, now they are just waiting for the wind to push them back. On this miraculous island, where the warm humanity that has accepted all people who have come flowing in from the past and has passed on through the heart, and the rich nature and climate have become DNA, the children will encounter a new wind and rekindle their "zest for life.

■About Wind-waiting Camp 2025

This year marks the third camp, which began in 2023 to raise the self-esteem of children who do not go to school. A total of 15 families have participated so far, and many dramas have been created. This year, 10 families from all over Japan are scheduled to participate.

Children experience a sense of freedom in the overwhelming wilderness, and through interaction with the islanders and student staff, gain a sense of self-affirmation and the courage to move forward into the future. Even children who have difficulty interacting with others can enjoy themselves at their own pace.

Parents can get away from their children to talk with other parents and reflect on themselves through the stories of staff and guests and workshops. This year's guest speaker is Ms. Yasuko Kimura, the first principal of Ozora Elementary School in Osaka, who is well known from the movie "School for Everyone. Parents will have the opportunity to talk directly with Ms. Yasuko Kimura to gain a deeper understanding of truancy and increase their confidence as parents.
