Yukihira Yaneyane" is a facility created as part of the "Ariwara Project" by npo Ariwara (CEO: Yoshihiko Mori), which conducts a community revitalization project in the Minami-Suma area to address issues in the local community such as young people leaving the community and a lack of community leaders due to the aging population.

The first floor is occupied by ORCA STUDY (CEO: Masateru Oyama), a cram school for children, and the second floor and part of the first floor are occupied by Glocal Sharehouse YANeYANe, an international share house where people from Japan and overseas live together. The second floor and part of the first floor are occupied by the international share house "Glocal YANeYANe" (operated by Machiake Co., Ltd.), where people from Japan and abroad live. When the school is not in operation, the space will be used as a co-working space and local exchange space, creating an open exchange space where local residents and outside creators can gather.

Yukihira Yaneyane will present a new way to create a local environment through dialogue with the local community, promote interaction and revitalize the local community through both facility development (hardware) and facility operation (software), and create a sustainable system that combines private business and volunteer activities, and a new way to create local communities through community business.

Collaboration of 4 x 40 year olds

Forty years old and not confused. Four 40-year-olds with a sense of mission in different fields of business are at the heart of this project.

Mr. Mori launched this project with a desire to revitalize the Minami-Suma area where he grew up, drawing on his experience as an employee of the Hyogo Prefectural Government supporting community development in the region. (CEO: Tomohiro Tamai), a leading company of share houses in Kobe, will manage a share house for young people moving into the area, and Mr. Oyama, a former teacher at a famous cram school, will manage a cram school to improve children's academic ability. The project was designed by Kenshi Hashimoto Architects (President: Kenshi Hashimoto), who has worked on many renovation projects.

The opening of "Glocal Sharehouse YANeYANe" marks the full-scale launch of Yukihira YANeYANe, which was developed through two years of discussions from the planning and conception of the project and the combined expertise of four people active in society.

Creating a safe and secure living environment through dialogue with the community and revitalization of vacant houses

In developing Yukihira YANeYANe, we discussed various local issues with the local community association and renovated vacant houses as an effective measure to solve these issues.

While gaining support for the use of the house as a shared house and tutoring school to increase the number of young people and improve children's academic performance, we also listened to the community association's concerns about the security of the park at night and used the large windows as lights to illuminate the park. The building is located at the end of a narrow alley lined with three houses, and there were concerns about evacuation in the event of an earthquake or fire.

The building contributes to the creation of a safe and secure residential environment that enhances disaster and crime prevention not only in the building but also in the surrounding area.

Architecture open to the community

The renovation was designed by Kenshi Hashimoto Architects, and was selected for Kobe City's project to promote utilization of vacant houses in collaboration with architects. In addition to seismic reinforcement of the 60-year-old house to current standards, the entire building was renovated.

The previous building was generally dark, poorly ventilated, and closed to the surrounding environment. Through renovation, especially large windows were placed on the park side, allowing brightness and breezes to seep into the interior and human activity to seep out into the exterior. Steel frames attached to the outside of the windows can be used as counter tables, allowing the building and park to be used as one during events. In addition, planting and shade screens are installed to create an appropriate distance between the park, which is a public space, and the building, which is a private space, in a new way.

By revitalizing a vacant house in a way that creates contact with the local community, we aim to create a favorable environment for both the building and its surroundings by encouraging interaction between the inside and outside of the building.

Glocal Sharehouse YANeYANe" will be managed and operated by MATIAKE Corporation, which operates 16 international exchange share houses in Kobe City and one in Akashi City (44 countries in the past).

With "glocal" as the keyword, we propose a "life connected to the world" that emphasizes "thinking and acting from a global perspective while remaining rooted in the local community.

We operate the share house with the hope that local children will come into contact with the world, be exposed to diverse cultures, become familiar with diverse values, and broaden their perspectives, thereby developing richer people, which in turn will lead to the creation of a richer community.

Four of the six share house rooms are already occupied (as of May 15, 2025). Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Please apply as soon as possible.

ORCA STUDY", a tutoring school using AI system

ORCA STUDY, a private tutoring school headed by Mr. Oyama, provides a comfortable learning environment and a curriculum that steadily forms a basic framework by introducing AI-based analysis of weak points to enable all children to engage in meaningful learning, based on the philosophy of "providing a high quality education to a wide range of people.

Time spent not understanding the content of the class, time spent solving problems they are not supposed to be able to solve, and such time is just hard and does not lead to improved grades. We provide the best learning method for each student.

Learning and involvement in daily life "npo Ariwara

npo Ariwara is a voluntary community organization that aims to promote the sound upbringing of children and community interaction, and operates on a sustainable basis with a portion of the proceeds from Glocal Sharehouse YANeYANe and ORCA STUDY as funding sources.

We plan and run "Work-Life Design Meetings," workshops for children to "find out who they want to be," and "Chaberiba," a place where local elderly people, mothers, and young people from the share house can chat over a cup of tea.

We promote the creation of a community where people can look at, learn about, and get involved with the world and the local community in their daily lives.

Yukihira Yaneyane is a "crossroads" where new values are created by connecting young people, the community, and people with diverse backgrounds. We aim for this center, which is rooted in the local community but also intersects with the world, to become a trial site for nurturing the future of young people and Minami-Suma together, and for taking on the challenge of solving the social issues of a declining population.
